Sweetwater Rose Interview on Lyrical Venus! Tues 2/7

Sweetwater Rose

Sweetwater Rose

With killer voices and cowgirl boots to match, if you didn’t know better listening to country music sirens Sweetwater Rose, you might think they all hatched out of the same Music City nest and grew up singing side-by-side from day one.  Though their harmonies are tight enough to be sisters, these songbirds were fully fledged when circumstances brought them together.  Lala Deaton, Marna Taylor and Ali Sperry found each other in Nashville thanks to the vision of Mac Gayden (of “Everlasting Love” fame) and his wife Diane, music business veterans who knew that today’s audiences had a longing for raw, authentic connection.

Before I go too much further, I have to admit I may be just a bit prejudiced, seeing as Ali and I grew up in the same town, but I think that has little to do with how awesome and talented these ladies are.  The fact that they are backed by an fantastic band doesn’t hurt anything either, check out all the credits on these guys: Brad Pemberton (Ryan Adams drummer), Sam Bush, Dan Dugmore (Ronstadt), Pete Finney (Dixie Chicks), Steve Latanation, Byron House (Robert Plant-Band of Joy), Mac Gayden (Everlasting Love), Scott Vestal (Sam Bush-banjo player).

Band or no band, the magic comes in the blending of the trio’s voices.  With a throwback style reminiscent of classic 60’s and 70’s bands like Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles, no auto-tune is required to make Sweetwater Rose sound good.  Just check out this one take video of them performing live in a creek with only Mac Gayden backing them up on dobro:

If you are reading this post elsewhere, you may need to come to the blog to see the video.

Some of you may be feeling like you need to go jump in a cold creek yourself after that, eh?  :-) Check out their website for more about Lala, Marna and Ali.  If you’re lucky enough to live in Fairfield, Sweetwater Rose is bringing their special brand of sweet and sultry to the Sondheim Center on Saturday, February 12th.  Get your tickets now!

Wherever you are, you can also get to know them a little better by tuning in to Lyrical Venus this Tuesday, February 8th at 9am Central!  KRUU-LP 100.1 on your FM radio here in town, or kruufm.com online from anywhere!
